Abstract:
Final report of the ITCOLE project. Details are given of the main objectives, aims and results of the project, which has concentrated on aspects of computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL). The pedagogical approach and theory is described as well as descriptions of the software tools developed in the project and the results of their testing in many school-based experiments. The teacher training model developed in the project is also presented as well as a description of the www.euro-cscl.org web portal through which the project’s results are disseminated.

Keywords:
School of Tomorrow, Computer Supported Collaborative Learning, European schools, Learning Environment Software, Teacher training model, CSCL Pedagogical theory.

D2.1 A review of the state-of-the-art of pedagogical models of CSCL

[Document in PDF format]

Report Prepared by:
Minna Lakkala, UH.DP; Marjaana Rahikainen, UH.DP; Kai Hakkarainen, UH.DP (Eds.)

Abstract:
The purpose of the document is to analyse the current practices of using ICT and CSCL in European education, crystallize and concretise pedagogical ideas of collaborative knowledge building to guide the design of ITCOLE CSCL, and provide good examples and models for pedagogical practices. The document is based on CSCL research literature review and information about current practices of using the Internet and networked learning environments for instructional purposes in the participating countries.

Keywords:
Computer-supported collaborative learning, CSCL research in Europe, implementation of CSCL in schools, progressive inquiry.

D2.2 Specification of design principles for ITCOLE CSCL

[Document in PDF format]

Report Prepared by:
Kai Hakkarainen, UH; Minna Lakkala, UH; Marjaana Rahikainen, UH; Pirita Seitamaa-Hakkarainen, University of Joensuu; Edited by Teemu Leinonen UIAH

Abstract:
This document is the Conclusion chapter of the D2.1 – A review of the state-of-the-art of pedagogical models of CSCL -document. The document is specifying the pedagogical design principles for ITCOLE CSCL system. The document aims to direct the functionality, interaction and user interface design of the ITCOLE CSCL system and the general system development. The document is not describing the system itself but giving guidelines for system and functionality design from pedagogical point of view.

Keywords:
design principles, pedagogy and design, learning environment system development

D3.1 Study of functionality and interfaces of existing CSCL/CSCW systems

[Document in PDF format]

Report Prepared by:
Giedre Kligyte UIAH; Teemu Leinonen, UIAH

Abstract:
D3.1 Study of functionality and interfaces of existing CSCL/CSCW systems was prepared as a part of the Work Package 3; Interface Design. The main purpose of the study is to help interface designers of the CSCL system developed in the project. The study is presenting nineteen different systems designed and used for collaborative work and learning. The group of systems studied is by no means complete but it can be considered to be representative sample of different systems.

Keywords:
CSCL, user interfaces, design

D7.5 Final field test and evaluation report

[Document in PDF format]

Report Prepared by: Edited by: Bruno Emans, UA; Henk Sligte, UA

Abstract:
This deliverable describes the evaluation results of the final testing phase of the ITCOLE-project (three phases in total). Two computer supported collaborative learning environments were developed within the ITCOLE project: FLE3 and Synergeia. They were evaluated on their technological and pedagogical effectiveness.

Keywords:
Evaluation, electronic learning environment, CSCL

D8.1 Guidelines for teacher training and technical and pedagogical support - ITCOLE teacher training and consulting model

[Document in PDF format]

Report Prepared by:
Essi Haatainen, HC & Kati Korhonen, HC

Abstract:
This document describes the ITCOLE teacher training and consulting model. The main purpose of this document is to give guidelines for teacher training and consulting when guiding teachers to develop and implement new pedagogical practices on collaborative learning supported by Synergeia learning environment. This document aims to empower the change of teaching and learning culture in European education and considers teacher training as an important channel for the dissemination of pedagogically meaningful, best practices on CSCL created in the ITCOLE -project.
